Coronation Street fans work out who's next on Stephen's hitlist - and it's not Elaine - as they make quip over 'hysterical' outburst

Coronation Street fans think they know who will be Stephen Reid's next victim - and it's not fiancee Elaine Metcalfe. While it's been weeks now since he claimed his last victim, businessman Rufus Donahughe, a moment aired during the first trip of the week to the cobbles suggested Elaine could be next.

During Monday night's episode of the ITV soap (June 12), viewers saw rival businessman Owen Longford discover that Stephen has been scheming to ruin his romantic chances with Jenny Connor. Striding over to Stephen, Owen revealed that after a frank discussion with Rovers landlady Jenny, they’d both like to know why he told them each a pack of lies in a bid to foil their potential romance.

But unbeknownst to Owen, Stephen wants to get his hands on the factory and ruining his romance with Jenny is just another part of his hurried plan to do just that as Owen is in advanced talks with Carla Barlow to buy her share of Underworld.

During his confrontation with Stephen, Owen vowed to fire him from the factory as soon as the contracts are signed. But Stephen responds by talking to Carla in private, urging her to reconsider the sale of the factory before eventually agreeing that she'll consider letting him buy her out, if he comes up with the money.

This puts more pressure on Stephen and it wasn't long before the frustrations of the day become too much and Stephen furiously trashed the factory floor after sending staff home. "Get out, all of you," he yelled as Sean Tully and Izzy Armstrong looked at him confused.

"I want you gone. You heard me. I don’t want you to come back today. Get out. Go on, get out," he raged. And with the factory workers having left, Stephen then lost it completely, hurling fabric samples, mannequins and feather boas around before Michael Bailey walked in on the outburst.

Stephen tried to explain his way out of the situation and later, his day didn't get any better when he suggested again to Elaine that they should buy Carla’s share of the business. But when Elaine snaps at him and spells out that she will never invest a penny in the factory and they should simply enjoy their retirement, Stephen masks his fury - until later when he replaced her blood pressure pills with caffeine pills.

And while it looks like Stephen is working towards a life insurance scam after secretly taking out a policy for Elaine, some Corrie fans think this could be a distraction from Stephen's actual next victim. @AllThatJazz_i tweeted: "He’s going to kill this Owen guy and frame Michael isn’t he? #Corrie."

@OliReading posted: "#Corrie yes Steven will give Owen a 'nudge'." @floweroflondon pondered: "Michael or Owen one at a time, or will he do the double? #Corrie." @pam_debeauvoir commented: "Tellin Stephen you're gonna sack him, will reignite his list for killing. Watch that hole punch, Owen #Corrie." @ToweyEmily added: "Oo watch out Owen! Red rag to a bull that to our Stephen! @itvcorrie #Stephen #Corrie."

Meanwhile, others were reacting the Stephen's latest rage-induced outburst as they made the same quip. @SykesBolton joked: "When those knickers flew through the air I thought I was at a Tom Jones’ concert. #corrie." @Samanth22356123 echoed: "Stephen throwing more knickers than a Tom Jones concert there!! #Corrie."

@marcialouisehands commented: "I just love Stephen's meltdowns they always make me laugh. First the wheelie bins now the knickers. Lol." @scottishdevotchka81 echoed: "Stephen and the flying knickers. Makes a change from the wheelie bins." @crueltyfreebeautywithsylvia added: "Tonight's tantrum was hysterical."
