Coronation Street fans wonder 'did David Platt stab rapist Josh Tucker?' in soap cliffhanger

Rapist Josh Tucker was stabbed and left fighting for life in a dramatic twist leaving viewers wondering if David Platt was his attacker on tonight's Coronation Street.

As a riot broke out in the prison where David was being held with the man who raped him, David was urged to get his revenge with a pair of scissors.

To his surprise David initially let him go because he wasn't willing to risk his parole while serving time for money laundering.

But in disturbing scenes Josh then finally admitted to father-of-two David that he had raped him and said he’ll rape again when he gets out.

"I'll keep on doing it and there's nothing you can do about it," he goaded.

"You're what they call impotent but you weren't that night were you?

"I'm getting out and then I'm going to come and pay you a visit

"How old's your Max now? Does he take after you?"

Back at home David's family watched in horror as the prison riot unfolded on the news.

In a shock twist at the end of tonight's double bill David was then seen calling his fiance Shona Ramsey from his cell to tell her that that Josh had been stabbed and she needs to find him a lawyer.

"He's in a very difficult situation," said actor Ryan Clayton who plays Josh.

"If he's going to act he's going to create bigger problems for himself and Josh knows that."

As he served time for money laundering David, played by Jack P Shepherd, was horrified to discover the man who raped him was also behind bars, awaiting trial for another rape, in the same prison.

When the riot broke out David was keen to keep his head down, aware he’s getting out soon after being sentenced to four months behind bars for the plot to steal £80,000 from his gran Audrey.

"I think it was the perfect place to leave viewers ," said Ryan.

"Everyone loves a cliffhanger and this is perfect."

David bundled Josh into his car but let him go (ITV)

Josh left the cobbles last September when survivor David, who he drugged and raped following a night out, let him go after pretending he was turning him in to a police station.

Soap bosses worked with charity Survivors Manchester supporting male survivors of sexual abuse and rape on the storyline and in the month after the scenes first aired in March 2018, Survivors had a 64 per cent increase in referrals - mainly self referral from male survivors - compared to the same time last year.

And Survivors Manchester and the National Male Survivors helpline saw a 1,700 per cent increase in male survivors contacting them.

Viewers were surprised when David let Josh go, with the survivor delivering a powerful speech about claiming his own life back after the horrific attack.

"I've got him out of my head now," he said.

"I can think clearly. I can breathe, and the air's never smelt better. I've got my life back.

"Yeah Josh took part of my soul away from me but I'm not going to be a victim anymore."

And now the decision to let him walk away looks set to be one he'll certainly regret.
