Coronation Street fans surprised as Pat Phelan pops up in scene

Coronation Street viewers were surprised tonight as one of the show's most infamous serial killers Pat Phelan cropped up.

Todd, Paul and Billy were gathered in the kitchen as Summer tried to print out her boarding passes. She is due to take on a holiday with Aaron but his recent outbursts and attitude has left everyone concerned for her.

Discussing the troubled teen's new temper Todd admitted he didn't think it was a good idea for them both to be going away. He said: "I'm just saying, he could be a serial killer or worse."

Billy was quick to snap back and dampen Todd's concerns before Paul interjected. He tried to reassure Todd by saying he doesn't think there is anything to worry about and that he thinks Aaron is a "nice guy."

Unconvinced, Todd added: "I'm sure they said the same about a young Pat Phelan." The character he referenced was a notorious serial killer from Liverpool who was at the centre of multiple harrowing storylines.

Pat, played by Conor McIntyre, brutally shot and killed Andy Carver and Vinny Ashford after holding them captive in his basement. He was also responsible for accidentally killing Luke Britton in an explosion as well as troubling other residents with intimidation, deceit and a rape storyline.

Long-term fans of the show were quick to notice the reference as they immediately shared their surprise. One viewer said: "Todd mentions Pat Phelan."

Another viewer noticed the reference as they too said: "#Phelan mention!"

Pat has been absent from the show after being killed off in 2018. The serial killer met his end after being stabbed to death by a vengeful Anna Windass after he failed to murder her.
