Coronation Street viewers were quick to spot a problem as Johnny remained in general population at the prison.
Johnny has been getting progressively worse in prison, losing his eyesight and seeing his dead son Aidan in delusions.
Despite telling his family he's taking medication Johnny appeared to be still struggling.
In tonight's episode his cellmate taunted him, and Gary Windass stepped in to stick up for him.
Gary told his cellmate: "He's getting worse, he's been through a lot, his son killed himself you know, he's a good guy."
Gary then asked Johnny if he fancied a game of cards, but Johnny stared into the distance and said: "No I'm alright ta."
Viewers were left heartbroken by the scenes, but many asked why he wasn't in the medical ward of the prison because of his clear issues.
Greg Phillips said: "Johnny should be in a prison hospital wing....."
