Coronation Street fans spot flaw in Stephen's plan to drug Elaine as they figure out his 'downfall'

Coronation Street fans think they have spotted an obvious flaw in Stephen Reid's plan to drug - and potentially kill - his fiancee Elaine Metcalfe as they also believe they have 'worked out' the serial killer's downfall.

His family, colleagues and those living alongside him in Weatherfield are completely unaware that the bogus businessman has already shockingly claimed the lives of three people as he tries to get his hands on Underworld.

Earlier this year, viewers of the ITV soap were horrified when he started drugging factory boss Carla Connor with LSD, making her think her psychosis had returned. Concerned for her mental health, she has now decided to sell her shares in the factory and Stephen has been left miffed that she's not planning to sell to him.

During Monday night's episode of Corrie (June 12), viewers saw rival businessman Owen Longford discover that Stephen has been scheming to ruin his romantic chances with Jenny Connor. Striding over to Stephen, Owen revealed that after a frank discussion with Rovers landlady Jenny, they’d both like to know why he told them each a pack of lies in a bid to foil their potential romance.

During his confrontation with Stephen, Owen vowed to fire him from the factory as soon as the contracts are signed. But Stephen responds by talking to Carla in private, urging her to reconsider the sale of the factory before eventually agreeing that she'll consider letting him buy her out, if he comes up with the money.

This puts more pressure on Stephen and it wasn't long before the frustrations of the day become too much and Stephen furiously trashed the factory floor after sending staff home. Back at home, Stephen suggested again to Elaine that they should buy Carla’s share of the business.

But when she snapped at him and spells out that she will never invest a penny in the factory and they should simply enjoy their retirement, Stephen masks his fury - until later when he replaced her blood pressure pills with caffeine pills.

And Corrie fans think they have spotted what could be a potential flaw in Stephen's plan after he took out a life insurance policy in Elaine's name. @11syoung tweeted: "Even I can see the caffeine tablets are bigger Steven !! #Corrie."

@stevebethere wrote: "Only an idiot wouln't notice the pills are different gawd #corrie." @itzzzo_ posted: "Won't Elaine be able to notice that the tablets are suddenly a different size? But then this is Elaine so probably not. #Corrie." @justme_30_01 added: "Those caffeine tablets are twice the size of the blood pressure ones but I guess she isn't going to notice."

Others, meanwhile, think they may have worked out Stephen's downfall. On Reddit, according to the Express, Ginaraquel47 commented: “I don’t think she’ll die but this will be the beginning of his downfall. Like Elaine ends up having bloodwork and it shows some abnormality than casts suspicion on Stephen.

"Why this didn’t happen with Carla and the LSD is another story but hey. I know this storyline is insane but I still love it." Icy-Translator9124 added: "I agree that Elaine won't likely die, but Elaine isn't going to take being left for dead, quietly. Her squawking is going to be very awkward for the Bin Baron. He's going to have some 'splainin' to do."
