Coronation Street fans spot a blunder as Gary Windass is held captive

Coronation Street fans were left scratching their heads by a baffling turn of events as Gary Windass was held captive by his evil loan shark boss Rick Neelan.

A snarling Rick laid out plastic sheeting for an already bruised and battered Gary as he prepared to kill him in his office on Wednesday night's Corrie , but then things took a surprising turn.

As Rick left the office and threatened "I'll be back", Gary managed to drag a phone from a desk. But instead of ringing the police viewers were shocked by his decision to call on-off girlfriend Sarah Platt instead.

Sarah didn't answer the phone so Gary left an emotional 'goodbye' message to Sarah instead, saying: "It's me. Look I've not got long. I've got myself in a mess and I'm not getting out of it, not this time.

"I love you Sarah and I'm so sorry for everything that I've put you through.

"But I've not got long, Rick's coming after you I want you to tell police what he's done to me."

Gary also said he had something else to tell Sarah, which sparked talk he might have been about to confess to the sabotage of the Underworld factory roof.

"Why didn't he ring the police?#FFS" asked one viewer.

"Can't he call the police?!" asked another.

"I am going with the assumption that Gary Windass has not heard of 999," wondered another amused fan.

Viewers feared for Gary's life as he was threatened by nasty Rick, who laid down plastic on the floor and told the builder: "I was first in the queue when they were slicing bulls' eyes at school."

Thankfully it appears someone had called the police because, as Rick returned and was about to strike him brutally with a golf club, there was a banging at the door and Gary managed to crawl away.

The drama continues tonight and tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
