Coronation Street fans slam Ken Barlow's house as it goes on sale for £120,000

As Ken Barlow’s iconic house goes on the market, fans of Corrie have been asking why anyone would want to buy a house in Weatherfield?

One viewer joked that a £120,000 tug of war for Number One Coronation Street was crazy because the area “has a higher murder rate than downtown Baghdad.”

The house has seen much drama, in 2017 Ken nearly died after being pushed down the stairs.

Ken has moved with girlfriend Claudia Colby, played by Rula Lenska, to a retirement complex.

Both his daughter Tracy, played by Kate Ford, and Peter, played by Chris Gascoyne, want to buy the house and are at loggerheads.

Among those to live with Ken in the three-bedroom house was wife Deirdre and her mother Blanche.

But fans were left aghast at the cost of the property given the crime-rate. Research in 2018 found that 181 characters had died since 1960 – including 32 murders.

You are four times more likely to be killed on Coronation Street than in the Los Cabos, Mexico, one of the world’s deadliest cities.

Last year bistro owner Robert Preston was shot outside the Rovers pub next door and died in the street outside Number One.

Viewer Paul Lanagan said: "£120,000 for No. 1. Have they seen the crime rate for Weatherfield?”

Ken, played by William Roache, 87, left the cobbles during the 10,000th episode after 60 years this month, but is still in the soap.

Salford estate agent, Charlotte Coleby said "£120,000 was “an attractive price for buyers”.

Corrie icon Bill Roache left fans with both a sense of gratitude for his service to the soap, but also a sadness that his character Ken Barlow would be moving from the Cobbles.

While he's had some tear-jerking and heard-hitting story lines in the last few years, Ken's decided it's time to move - to a luxury retirement village.

Fan-favourite Ken, who's the only original character remaining from the 1960 pilot, made waves earlier this month with the announcement that he would not be calling Weatherfield home any longer.

Instead, he would be upping sticks to Still Waters retirement village.

A long driveway leads up to the main house, where guests can park their cars under the cover of trees.

The snaps also show Malcolm Hebden's Norris and Rula Lenska's Claudia, who will also be moving there.

It's a 300 acre estate in which guests can hold events and even get hitched - at a hefty price somewhere between £3,500 and £12,000.

It also boasts it own cocktail bar, as well as a book club and fencing classes.

Bill's been very candid - and just as emotional - about ken's decision to leave the Cobbles.
