Coronation Street fans are sharing their theories amid the ITV soap’s latest whodunnit storyline, which is unfolding following the death of Theo Silverton (played by James Cartwright).
The scaffolder husband of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was found dead during last month’s ‘Murder Week’. ITV has now unveiled an official list of suspects and there’s one character who is standing out to fans as the most likely culprit.
Theo had no shortage of enemies on the cobbles and his husband Todd, who he was abusive towards, is in the frame – but an early fan theory claims his former partner Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) is responsible.
In a post on Reddit, one viewer has pointed out that Danielle has so far featured in less than 20 episodes, comparing the storyline to the ‘Who killed Frank Foster?’ plot in 2012.
The suspects then were Corrie heavyweights including Carla Connor, Sally Webster and Peter Barlow, “and [Frank’s] mum, who came into it a week or so before”. They wrote. “Guess who did it?”
The viewer continued: “If Danielle did it, it'll be the biggest cop out of an already drawn out murder mystery.”
Another user wrote: “I was thinking the exact same thing when his ex-wife and son started appearing again.” A third fan admitted that if Danielle is guilty, “it wouldn't be a very impact[ful] reveal”.
Joining Todd and Danielle on the official suspects list are Christina Boyd, Summer Spellman, Gary Windass and George Shuttleworth. This week’s episodes will see local undertaker George (Tony Maudsley) become the first person to be arrested on suspicion of murder after his wife Christina (Amy Robbins) discovers a jumper he wore on the night of Theo’s death covered in bloodstains.
ITV previously teased: “Everyone on the street is struggling to comprehend that one of their own is a murderer, but for the suspects, the fight is to keep their secrets hidden. This month, the pressure mounts to a breaking point as the hunt for Theo’s killer commences.”
It added that Todd, George and Gary (Mikey North) will be the first to face interrogations, before Summer (Harriet Bibby), Christina and Danielle (Natalie Anderson) come under suspicion “in the following weeks”.
Speaking to the Mirror, Theo actor James said of his character’s death: “Something needs to happen to him. He can't go on like that, we need justice.
“Soap is a very moral medium. We want our underdogs to triumph and our baddies to meet their end.
“Being part of the show and the way we have, in terms of the arc Theo has been on, has been one of the great joys and privileges of my life.”
