Coronation Street fans rage as 'evil' Geoff sabotages Yasmeen in bid for control

Coronation Street fans raged tonight as Geoff sabotaged Yasmeen's restaurant in a nasty bid to control and manipulate her.

Over the last few weeks, viewers have watched as Geoff's behaviour towards Yasmeen has grown more disturbing as he gaslights her.

This evening, after making her think that she had done something wrong, Geoff sabotaged Ryan's DJ set and made it look like she had accidentally knocked a glass of water over it.

The ITV soap recently announced that the disturbing effects of coercive control relationships would be explored through Geoff and Yasmeen.

Geoff's behaviour will escalate as he stages a robbery so that he can be seen to protect Yasmeen.

This leads to him taking over her bank account and isolating her from her friends and family as he sets up CCTV equipment in order to watch her at the house.

However Yasmeen is unaware that she is being controlled as Geoff manages to deceive most people closest to her.

Corrie have worked with Women's Aid and Independent Choices Greater Manchester for the storyline.

Soap boss Iain MacLeod said: "It’s common for people to think abusive behaviour has to be physical - but you can damage someone profoundly without laying a finger on them.

"Many thousands of people feel trapped in relationships with someone who claims to love them but who is actually taking them apart piece by piece, isolating them from friends and family and locking them in an invisible prison of fear and insecurity.

"Often, the abusive behaviours accumulate and intensify over time so that you don’t realise it’s happening - it’s an insidious type of brainwashing.

"I hope this story will help anyone going through similar experiences in the real world by highlighting that feeling undermined, belittled, controlled or intimidated by your partner is never okay. The old 'sticks and stones' adage is just plain wrong - words can be instruments of torture and manipulation.”

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
