Coronation Street fans praise 'icon' Asha over coming out speech as Dev is left speechless

Coronation Street viewers lavished praise on "iconic" Asha Alahan as she came out to dad Dev in the best way possible tonight.

As Asha, played by Tanisha Gorey, began to get ready for a date, Dev panicked that she was meeting up with Corey.

But Asha dropped a bombshell - that she wasn't meeting a boy, but Roy's niece Nina.

Initially speechless, Dev queried: "Nina?"

"Yes," Asha responded.

Dev struggled to compute: "Roy's Nina? The one that looks like she escaped from the set of a Tim Burton set?"

Asha hit back: "Dad, don't be so rude!"

But he continued to probe, asking: "What, are you a lesbian now?"

Yet Asha replied calmly: "People don't have to label themselves anymore. I just like people."

And fans flocked to Twitter, with one tweeting: "YES ASHA #Corrie."
