Coronation Street fans left 'gobsmacked' by 'seedy' storyline

Coronation Street fans have been left feeling uncomfortable by a fling on the famous cobbles.

Friday night's double bill saw dependable mechanic Tyrone Dobbs lock lips with his former lodger Alina Pop.

He was taken aback after Alina confessed that she'd fallen for him and the pair kissed.

Later Tyrone, who is engaged to Fiz Stape, told Alina that he couldn't stop thinking about the kiss.

Corrie fans took to Twitter to air their views about the plot.

"Seedy story," said one soap watcher.

"Not a fan of this storyline, I like Tyrone and Fiz as a couple and I find the scenes between Alina and Tyrone uncomfortable to watch," said another.

"Like why you got split Tyrone and Fiz who asked for this?!" demanded another viewer.

"Absolutely gobsmacked, I simply never saw this happening. No buildup, no clue, nothing looked obvious. Truly amazed they got it together," voiced another viewer.

"Let Fiz and Tyrone be happy," another said.

But another fan tweeted: "*pops head above the metaphorical parapet* I like them together. Alina actually appreciates him..."

Bosses have revealed the secret to how Tyrone and Alina managed to kiss on a bench in Victoria Gardens during the pandemic.

Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone, and Ruxandra Porojnicu, who plays Alina, were never seated on the bench together and the soap used a real life couple as kissing doubles.

In order to not break coronavirus social distancing rules in the UK, regular Corrie extra Alex Mulvaney and his wife Hannah stepped in to take their place.

To make sure the actors had the correct eye line, Corrie’s design department taped a pair of sunglasses onto a telescopic radio aerial so the on-screen lovers could give the impression of looking into each other's eyes.

Tyrone is unaware that while he's in turmoil over the kiss, Fiz has booked them a surprise romantic wedding in Greece after worrying that the spark had gone from their relationship.

The doting dad of two has grown closer to Alina after she received the tragic news that her beloved family dog had passed away and the fellow dog lover comforted her.

Then he was bowled over to discover that she also shared his love of cars.
