Coronation Street fans left fuming over Michelle Connor update as Ryan remains in hospital

Coronation Street fans didn't seem too impressed after they heard an update on Michelle Connor. The character, played by Kym Marsh, left Weatherfield in 2019 after being horrified to discover sleazy Ray Crosby, who once made sexual advances towards her, was the new owner of The Bistro which she ran with her late fiance Robert Preston.

Michelle waved goodbye to the famous street for a new start in Dublin leading to an exit for Kym after 13 years on the ITV soap. But her absence from Weatherfield has become all the more clearer since her son Ryan became the victim of a horrifying acid attack.

Ryan was left with burns to his face and arm after he stepped in and took the brunt of the acid hurled at ex Daisy by her stalker Justin Rutherford on her wedding day. He suffered a blow when he looked at his injuries for the first time and was told by the surgeon that he was not healing as they had hoped and he needed a skin graft.

Ryan was also crushed when his ex-girlfriend Alya Nazir told him that she only wanted to be friends. In order to give him a boost Daisy invited Ryan's Ibiza club promoter friend Crystal to see him, but she later told Daisy that she no longer had a job in the offing for him, and wasn't interested in him romantically either.

Feeling more guilty than she did before, Daisy has since been messaging Ryan pretending to be Crystal. Last week, Corrie viewers watched as Ryan, alone in the flat, was overcome by a wave of pain and unable to go out as planned, instinctively called Crystal. But it was Daisy who later came to his rescue when he fell ill and later told he had contracted sepsis.

She has since found it difficult to cut ties with 'Crystal' as Ryan continues to use her for support as he recovers from his ordeal. In Wednesday night's episode (May 17), Carla Connor was seen keeping Ryan company in the hospital.

While he told her she should go home and that she doesn't need to stay with him, Carla replied: "I promised your mum I wouldn't let you out of my sight from here on out." And the mention of Ryan's mum didn't pass Corrie fans by and they were flocking to social media to comment on Michelle not returning to support her son.

@pam_debeauvoir tweeted: "Carla promised Ryan's 'mother' she'd look after him....yes of course. Michelle is so worried, she can't be bothered to even surface with a new face #Corrie." @ElaineWharton1 posted: "Carla, 'I promised your mam'!! The mam called Michelle that’s not bothered to come see her son?!!! #Corrie."

@RhysThompson5 fumed: "Michelle the most useless mother not bothered about her son being in hospital. What mother doesn’t drop everything to be there? #corrie #coronationstreet." @see75 added: "Surely Michelle would’ve visited Ryan by now? The scriptwriters could write a visit off screen? #corrie."

It comes after fans said back in March, shortly after the horrifying attack, that Corrie fans have suggested she be replaced. @DJWMarathonMan tweeted: "I think @itvcorrie should replace @msm4rsh as Michelle Connor especially when her son Ryan as just had an acid attack and should be back to support her son what sort of mother would neglect her injured son #Corrie." @fussyMcWhiskers shared: "#corrie It really doesn't make sense Michelle not being there for Ryan. They could easily bring in a new actress to be Michelle - it has been done so many times in Corrie - Gail's Nick has gone through a metamorphosis countless times!"
