Coronation Street fans incredulous after Peter tries to blame Rana's death on notorious character

Peter Barlow shocked Coronation Street viewers when he hatched a plot to blame the fatal factory roof collapse on the notorious Pat Phelan.

Tonight's hour-long episode showed the aftermath of the roof collapse at the Underworld factory, in which Rana Habeeb lost her life. Peter, keen to protect his partner Carla Connor, persuaded builder Gary Windass to lie to the police and Health and Safety about what really happened.

Gary was reluctant to lie, but the offer a £10,000 payment in cash helped to change his mind. Few people know that Gary had recently told Carla the roof needed fixing, so Peter came up with a shocking plan.

With Phelan originally owning the building company, he had completed works on the factory last year before the recent damage.

But Peter decided that they should claim the roof hadn’t been touched since then, implicating a dead Phelan for the crime and suggesting he hadn’t done it properly.

While it’s not known if they will pull off the plan, viewers were stunned to see how far the suspects were prepared to go to save themselves.

One viewer said: "Did no one smell a rat when Pat Phelan and his ONE man construction company managed to re-roof an entire factory, manage a development the other side of Manchester and murder three people all by HIMSELF."

And another said: "Unbelievable, even from beyond the grave, Pat Phealan is still killing folk. This is his final revenge."

A third viewer said: "Having just died in tonight's Corrie episode of the Underworld Factory Roof Collapse, Rana Habeeb has officially become the unfortunate fifth victim of Pat Phelan!!

"He maybe dead, but Pat Phelan has struck again!!"

There episode also featured a bitter and painful row within the Habeeb family about Rana's funeral.
