Coronation Street fans in tears by Aidan's return as Johnny drowns

Coronation Street fans were devastated by the death of Johnny Connor.

Johnny had entered the sewers after Jenny fell down a sinkhole in the Platt's garden.

As the water levels rose, the former couple cuddled as they tried to keep warm.

They also shared their love for one another, with Johnny admitting how badly his son Aidan's suicide had affected him.

Shona Platt luckily came to their rescue and attempted to feed a rope through to Jenny and Johnny.

Whilst Jenny was able to escape, Johnny lost consciousness.

And in his delirious state, he heard Aidan's voice, calling for him and saying: "Dad."

Smiling at hearing his son speak, Johnny smiled before slipping into the water.

Fans were heartbroken at hearing Aidan's voice, given his suicide had come as a complete surprise.

Milly said: "Johnny hearing Aidan's voice before he dies has tipped me over the edge."

Daniel tweeted: "What a performance from Richard and Sally I found it so emotional. I’m sad to see the end of Johnny he has been a nice comfy presence in this show the last few years. And a nice reminder of Aidan there."

Callum said: "Oh man. Hearing Aidan's voice gave me goosebumps."

Declan added: "Johnny hearing Aidan one final time was a beautiful touch."

CC said: "Not Johnny hearing Aidan’s voice in his final moments, my heart has just shattered."

And Clare tweeted: "Ok Johnny hearing Aidan saying ‘dad’ got me."
