Coronation Street fans in hysterics over Debbie Webster's 'blistering Boris Johnson dig'

Coronation Street viewers were stunned and amused, when Debbie Webster appeared to take aim at Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the latest episode of the ITV soap.

The character feared for her life after being attacked by villain Ray Crosby, who found out she was double-crossing him.

He repaid the favour by chucking her into The Bistro's walk-in fridge, leaving her to possibly freeze to death.

Ray was hit over the head by Debbie's brother Kevin, who raced to save his sibling only to be shut in the fridge too.

With the pair unable to get out and fearing no one would find them for at least two days, Kevin was left questioning if they would survive.

Debbie asked him if they were likely to die before deciding that this wouldn't happen.

In doing so, she made a comment about people hiding in fridges to avoid journalists leaving viewers in hysterics.

This was obviously a swipe at Prime Minister Boris Johnson, after he was accused of hiding in a fridge on ITV's Good Morning Britain in 2019.

He was meant to speak live on the show to hosts Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan but did not show, with him said to be in a building.

Piers made a comment that he was too busy hiding in a fridge to speak to him, with Debbie's comment clearly referring to the moment.

Her exact words were: "It’s 2021, people don’t die in fridges... they just hide in them from journalists."

One fan tweeted: "I laughed SO hard."

Another commented: "Nice little dig at Boris there, #Corrie!"

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
