Coronation Street fans heartbroken as Simon breaks down over Leanne's cruel confession

Coronation Street viewers were left heartbroken after Simon Barlow broke down after overhearing adoptive mum Leanne suggest that she didn't think of him as her son.

This evening, Peter Barlow found his son in tears after ditching his exams and asked what the matter was.

Simon revealed that he had heard what Leanne had said about Oliver's diagnosis, telling Steve that the toddler was all she had ever wanted.

She went on to say that once Oliver died that she would "have nothing".

"She wishes it was me," Simon told Peter, who told him he was being silly. "She does, I heard her when she was talking to Steve. She said that when Oliver dies that she will have no one."

Stunned, Peter responded: "I think you've misunderstood something, mate."

"I haven't," Simon replied. "She said that he's the child she's always wanted and that Steve will have Amy and Emma and that she'll have no one.

"Like I don't count."

"She actually said that?" Peter probed.

"You can't say anything," Simon said. "She's upset as it is already, you can't."

Grieving Leanne will also lash out at her own sister and bring up her infertility.

Toyah had been planning to foster children with her boyfriend Imran (Charlie de Melo), but upon finding out that her sister's son Oliver had a terminal illness she decided to put their plans on hold.

Leanne struggles under the weight of Oliver's mitochondrial disease diagnosis and Dr Gaddas suggests that she consider either counselling or medication.

Leanne is furious and refuses, so when Toyah calls round to offer some support, she isn't in the best mood.

She turns on her sister, pointing out that she has no idea how she is feeling because Toyah hasn't got any children.

Will Leanne be able to make amends with her family?
