Coronation Street fans fear Rita's cat will eat her after she is trapped under tree

Rita Sullivan is in grave danger according to Coronation Street fans and it is the cat that could be the culprit.

Corrie viewers have cited 'the way the cat looked at Rita' as proof that her feline friend could turn and eat her, after she was trapped under her fallen Christmas tree.

The Weatherfield veteran, played by Barbara Knox, has made viewers uncomfortable after she was left trapped, with her friends and family mistakenly believing she had gone away for the festivities.

There had been concern that Rita would be lonely this Christmas but to allay fears on the cobbles, she alluded that she would be elsewhere.

Instead, Rita looked to decorate her tree alone but there were disastrous consequences.

After putting the fairy lights on the tree, Rita looked to fix an issue with it but she tripped, twisted her ankle and the tree came down upon her.

Trapped, Rita only managed to muster a feeble attempt at shouting for help and with everyone thinking she had gone away, there was worry that she could be stuck for the duration.

To top it all, there was the look of her cat, which fans believe is eyeing up Rita and with the promise of a death in Corrie on Christmas Day for the first time in its 59-year history, there is fears that Rita could be the one.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their horror and what fate could be facing Rita.

One wrote: "Rita’s gonna die and her cat is gonna eat her face #festive #corrie #coronationstreet"

Another was worried: "I hope the cat doesn’t eat Rita #Corrie"

A third tweeted: "Rita better get some help soon otherwise the cat might eat her #corrie"

While another was getting hysterical, writing: "If Rita’s cat ends up eating her on god I’m gonna go SCREAM #Corrie"

Let's hope that help arrives before the cat finishes sharpening its claws and looking at Rita like she is 'turkey dinner'.
