Coronation Street fans distraught as Yasmeen stands by Geoff after police discovery

Coronation Street fans were hoping Monday night's episodes would be the moment Yasmeen Nazir broke free of her husband Geoff Metcalfe after months of coercive control.

But the character left viewers devastated when she stuck by him in the latest double-bill of the ITV soap instead of taking the help offered to her.

Geoff has been manipulating and isolating his wife for months, while making her think she is to blame for his behaviour.

But Yasmeen's granddaughter Alya has since realised what has been going on right under her nose, and is determined to free her gran from Geoff.

In the latest episode, Yasmeen was avoiding her as Geoff had manipulated her into choosing him over her own family.

But Alya had a plan, and sent boyfriend Ryan to the house to lure her to the flat acting as though something was seriously wrong.

When she got there though she realised it was a set-up, and Alya was fine.

Waiting for Yasmeen were two police officers, with them revealing they had news about Geoff she needed to hear.

But Yasmeen wasn't having any of it, and refused to expose Geoff's treatment of her, also refusing to leave him.

Alya was left devastated when she left, with the officers not able to tell her their information.

Later on, the pair came face-to-face yet again and it was then that Yasmeen told her that she already knew about Geoff's brush with the law.

She said that Geoff had told her about him once being charged with affray, with him spinning her a story about him being the victim and it all being over nothing.

It's then that Alya faced up to the fact that Geoff's control was too strong, with fans devastated over the scenes.

One fan said: "It's breaking the nation's heart to see Yasmeen like that."

Another said: "Oh Yasmeen!! This was your way out!"

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
