Coronation Street fans disgusted over 'homophobic' Ed after vile comment to son's boyfriend

Coronation Street viewers were left disgusted after Ed Bailey lashed out at his son's boyfriend with a vile accusation.

After fans initially praised Ed for his reaction to finding out his son were gay, they were horrified by his actions as he confronted James' boyfriend Danny.

However Ed stormed over to the Bistro kitchen and snarled: "You've corrupted my son!"

Danny defended himself, saying that he didn't drag James into bed.

"You can do what you like with who you like," Ed said.

Danny quipped: "So long as it's not your son."

"Yes!" Ed shouted.

"That makes a homophobe and a hypocrite, double whammy," Danny retorted.

Ed yelled: "I'm telling you, keep your sick, filthy paws off my boy."

What he didn't know was that his son was standing right behind him and had heard his dad's every word.

Later, James confronted his dad at home, who tried to apologise for what he had said.

James retorted: "Sorry for hearing what you really think of me or sorry for hating gays?"

"I don't hate gays," Ed replied. "I hate the sin, not the sinner."

"Wow," a horrified James replied. "Am I supposed to be grateful for that?"

Viewers were even more horrified when Ed later admitted to his wife that he was "disgusted" by his son, prompting her compare him to "racists who shove hate mail through their door".
