Coronation Street fans baffled over Gail Platt exit as she swaps cobbles for Thailand

Gail Platt stunned Coronation Street viewers this evening as she announced that she was leaving the cobbles to enjoy a well-earned break in Thailand.

Despite suffering a heart attack last week, Gail appeared eager to jet off to the other side of the globe.

Returning home after her stint in hospital, Gail was greeted by sons Nick and David - the latter of whom remarked that she still looked as though she was "at death's door".

"Oh, thank you very much," she sarcastically replied back.

Nick tried to be a little more tactful as he said: "He's joking. It's good to have you back."

But Gail retorted: "Really? Well don't get too used to it because I'm going away again tomorrow."

"Course you are," David responded dismissively.

As she asked what that was supposed to mean, David questioned whether this was about her trying to teach them a lesson.

Gail replied: "I can show you my ticket if you want."

Baffled, Nick said: "Ticket? To where?"

"Thailand," Gail replied. "[For] a month? A year? Haven't made up my mind yet."

And viewers were as baffled as Nick and David appeared to be and took to Twitter to comment.

Thankfully, Gail's grandson helped just in time (ITV)

One tweeted: "Someone should tell Gail that #Thailand is currently on the #amber list and @BorisJohnson has advised not to travel there #Corrie."

While another questioned: "Is Gail off for good?…"

A third wrote: "Will Gail really leave Weatherfield for good? Can she even really afford to given she literally just brought Number 6? #Corrie."

"I don’t think Gail can go to Thailand until 19 July. Even then we’re probably on their banned list," another commented.

One tweeted: "Gail is leaving this week.. Omg Gail cannot leave she's gonna be missed #Corrie

Another pleaded: "Please don’t leave Gail."
