Coronation Street exit for Sophie Webster tonight as Brooke Vincent goes on maternity leave

Sophie Webster will be waving goodbye to the cobbles tonight as she decides to go travelling with Kate Connor.

In real life, Coronation Street actress Brooke Vincent has gone on maternity leave, but she will be presumably returning in the future.

Tonight, Sophie is stunned when Paula suggests that she quit her college course and go travelling to Cambodia instead.

After persuading Sophie to leave tonight, Paula admits that she never planned to go with her and used it as a way to encourage her to leave.

Sally, Tim, Kevin and Paula gather to bid an emotional farewell Sophie as she leaves for the airport in the black cab.

Brooke is expecting her first child with boyfriend Kean Bryan, who she has been dating for around three years.

After announcing the news in OK! magazine earlier this year, she said: "We’re both each other’s biggest fans and having a baby together will add an extra bond.

"Kean brings out the best in me and it makes me so excited that we’re on this journey together."

The 27-year-old filmed her last scenes in August and bid an emotional farewell to her castmates.

There were tears flowing as several members of the cast and crew said goodbye to the actress.

In videos taken of the emotional moment, Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, and Mikey North, who plays Gary Windass, were seen saying farewell to Brooke.

The tearful mum-to-be then received a bouquet of flowers from her on-screen mum, Sally Dynevor.

Speaking on behalf of the cast, she told Brooke: "We're going to miss you so much.

"Oh Brooke we all love you so much, you've been here since you were 11. This is your home.

"You can come back anytime you want to, bring the baby."

*Coronation Street airs tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
