Coronation Street clarifies Liam Bairstow's future on the show after exit fears

Coronation Street has confirmed that Liam Bairstow has not left the ITV soap after the actor sparked fears by announcing that he had finished with filming.

The actor, who plays Kathy's nephew Alex, announced on Twitter today: "This is it for now for TV time. I have done all my episodes and I’m now doing stage work.

“I had the best time of my life with you and it’s time to think forward in life.”

The 30-year-old's post confused fans, who believed that he was leaving the show, with one tweeting: "That’s a shame Liam, you were fantastic on Corrie. Good luck for the future."

However Corrie have confirmed that Liam is not leaving the show.

An ITV spokesperson told us: "Liam Bairstow has not left Coronation Street he is back filming with us later this month."

Liam first joined the soap in 2015 as Alex, who arrived to live with his aunt Kathy. Most recently he became involved with a loan shark but was thankfully rescued by builder Gary.

The news comes a day after it was revealed that actress Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead, would be leaving the soap after six years .

She is the sixth cast member to leave the soap , sparking fears that Corrie is in the midst of a mass exodus.

So far Katie, Bhavna Limbachia, Connie Hyde, Kym Marsh, Tristan Gemmill and Faye Brookes have announced this year that they are leaving the soap.
