Coronation Street Chesney star Sam Aston left devastated as dog dies the day after wedding

Coronation Street star Sam Aston has been left devastated after his dog died the day after he got married.

The actor, who plays Chesney Brown in the ITV soap, married Briony Gardner on Sunday, May 5, in a stunning ceremony held on Stock Farm in Cheshire.

But the newlyweds were dealt a huge blow less than 24 hours into marital bliss when they revealed their pet pooch Buddy had died.

Sharing a picture to her Instagram page, Briony paid a touching tribute to the couples beloved pet.

She wrote: "Today we lost another member of our herd. Sweet dreams Buddy. Now you can lick every cushion in the sky."

The yoga teacher also added: "Sam and I are lucky to have each other through the good times and the bad.

"Thank you for all the love."

It comes just weeks after Sam said goodbye to his black Labrador, Bella, in April.

Posting an image on social media at the time, the actor said: "Earlier today, I said goodbye to my beautiful black lab. It’s very true when they say a dog is a mans best friend. Sleep well Bella.....You were and will always be my girl."

His Corrie family offered him some support by taking to the comments section.

Andy, who plays Kirk Sutherland, said: "Absolutely gutted for you mate, you know that you've given her a fantastic life and that's all you can do, we miss Regi loads it's just a shame dogs don't live as long as humans unfortunately x."

Jennie Mcalpine, Sam's on-screen sister, added: "Oh Sam. Loads of love to you both."

Sam took to one knee and proposed to his now wife back in summer 2017.

The 25-year-old pulled out all the stops and popped the question in front of over 250 people at the annual charity golf dinner that he hosts with co-stars Alan Halsall and Andrew Whyment  at the Worsley Park Marriott Hotel in Salford.

Sam, who has been in Corrie for 16 years, enjoyed a 'Highland Fling' stag do back in March when he descended on the Scottish city with his fellow co-stars Alan, Andy and Colson J Smith.
