Coronation Street character 'to be framed' for Rufus' death after worrying scene

Coronation Street fans think someone will be framed for a murder, and that killer Stephen Reid will escape justice.

It was reported last month that a character would be killed by Stephen in scenes to air in April, while spoilers last week announced the sudden death of factory client Rufus.

Just as things got heated between him and Stephen on Wednesday night the character disappeared - ahead of the news that he's been found dead, which will air during Friday's episode.

While it seems the character is the latest victim of Stephen, it's not been officially confirmed by the ITV soap.

But fans are fearing someone else will be blamed for the crime if it is confirmed to be murder, with two characters at the scene of the crime on the day of the apparent death.

Friday's episode will see characters learn that Rufus is dead, while it's believed nothing suggests foul play for now.

Wednesday night's episode seemed to be the moment that it happened, after a mystery character knocked at his door only for him to vanish moments later.

Viewers then saw Michael Bailey attend his home but there was no answer, seemingly confirming Rufus was already dead.

While viewers didn't see how he died or who, if anyone, killed him, it was confirmed by The Mirror last month that Stephen would kill again in April, and the victim would drown.

Viewers know that Rufus has a swimming pool, and that Stephen would have plenty of motive to want him dead - while Stephen has already killed two other characters.

Stephen murdered Leo Thompkins last September, before killing Leo's dad Teddy in January this year. He also drugged Carla Connor with LSD, leading to his supplier Rufus blackmailing him.

Rufus had just demanded 50% of the profits from the factory's new successful fashion line, before Stephen found out he was also poaching Michael to work for him.

The last we saw of Stephen was him looking very angry and as though he was about to strike again, before a mystery character knocked at the door.

Now, viewers are speculating that either Michael or another character could be framed for the death as they were both shown at the house.

Michael was there to meet with Rufus, while Paul Foreman secretly went to the house to steal Rufus' car moments before he seemed to disappear.

Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "On no! Michael is going to bet the blame for Stephen killing Rufus isn’t he!!!"

Another tweeted: "Let me guess... Stephen is going to kill Rufus and Paul will get the blame?" as a third said: "Right so Paul is gonna be framed for the murder because he’s been caught on cctv."

A fourth viewer commented: "Perhaps Stephen kills Rufus and Michael gets the blame," while a fifth predicted: "Stephen murders Rufus Michael gets blame Paul sees it can’t own up cos he’s stealing Rufus car."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
