Coronation Street casts Fiz's new love interest and he's a recognisable Hollywood star

Coronation Street's Fiz Stape has a new love interest and viewers may recognise him.

The machinist was devastated after she was dumped by her fiancé Tyrone Dobbs who left her to be with Alina Pop.

Left struggling over Tyrone's decision to leave their home and two daughters, Fiz found it hard to forgive her ex for what he had done.

Despite all odds, however, the pair bonded again when Fiz helped Tyrone over the shock of his ex Kirsty dying suddenly.

Yet there was more emotional turmoil when Fiz discovered Alina was pregnant.

Beth and Sean urged Fiz to sign up to a dating website and she meets up with Phill in the Speed Daal restaurant.

The pair quickly hit it off and when Tyrone spots them on a date when he pops in for a takeaway he looks stunned.

Phill is being played by Hollywood star Jamie Kenna, who played Big Marc in footie hooligan film Green Street, and had roles in Stormbreaker, The Bank Job and EastEnders, where he played Vince Franks.

The actor revealed he was joining Corrie on Instagram, saying: "ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! I can finally….FINALLY tell you all my amazing news! As of 16th July I will be appearing regularly as Phill Whittaker in the national institution that is @coronationstreet.

"I can’t tell you how excited I am to be joining the cast. Especially the brilliant @jenniemcalpine & @alanhalsall."

Tyrone and Phill will come face to face in the Bistro when both sets of couples head out to dinner in next week's episode.

Alina goes home early when she gets a headache and Tyrone has to pay the bill.

Tyrone makes snide remarks at Fiz and Phill’s expense, but he's then left red-faced when his his card is declined.

Phill then pays a humiliated Tyrone’s bill.

Looks like this is going to get very awkward...

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV
