Coronation Street bosses deny Faye Brooks will be killed off

Coronation Street bosses have spoken out to deny Faye Brooks will be brutally killed off after announcing her departure from the soap.

The actress, who plays Kate Connor in the ITV soap, revealed the news at the end of last month after four years on the cobbles.

At the time, Faye said that her character needed "a little break" and that "with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new."

But reports emerged on Thursday that Kate would be brutally killed off rather than being written out meaning a return would always be possible.

Bosses at Corrie have now responded to the reports and said that Kate will not die and they will leave the door open for the Flixton actress to return in the future.

A spokesperson told the Mirror : "We don't ever discuss future storylines but Kate Connor will not be killed off and the door will be open for her to return."

Faye, 31, is one of several actors leaving the Manchester-based soap.

Her announcement followed those of Kym Marsh, who is leaving the programme after 13 years playing Michelle Connor, and Tristan Gemmill who played the street's Robert Preston.

Lucy Fallon, Weatherfield's Bethany Platt, then announced her plans to leave the show leaving many to believe there was a 'Corrie crisis' which remaining stars have denied.
