Coronation Street back to double episodes tonight as Leanne discovers Oliver will die

Coronation Street returns to its double helping of episodes tonight with some earth-shattering news in store for Leanne Battersby.

The ITV soap has been running a reduced schedule of episodes ever since it suspended filming in March when the UK went into lockdown.

Filming resumed in June but bosses waited until the autumn before cranking up the number of episodes back to six.

But with the return of an extra episode tonight comes heartbreak for Oliver's family as they are told the only thing that is keeping him alive is the life support machine.

Tonight, the doctor first announces that they are going to reduce Oliver's sedation and remove his breathing tube.

While Leanne is delighted over the news, Steve and Tracy remain cautious.

Sadly, it isn't good news when the doctor later tells Oliver's mum and dad that they've had to increase Oliver's sedation because his seizures are uncontrollable.

She also tells them that the life support machine is the only thing that is keeping him alive.

Meanwhile, Toyah and Imran are ecstatic when they discover that Karen will recommend them to the fostering panel.

But they are soon left devastated when they receive a call from the hospital about news of Oliver.

Yet Leanne is determined not to give up on her son and tells Nick, Steve and Tracy that she'll do whatever she can to save him.

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
