Coronation Street airs surprise death leaving Mary Taylor devastated

Coronation Street aired a surprise death twist on Friday, as Mary Taylor learned tragic news on the ITV soap.

Norris Cole’s return spelled trouble for ex-wife Mary, when she made a discovery about their past.

She realised he had been hiding letters from her former flame Brendan, that he sent shortly after their split back in 2016.

Fans may remember Mary was having a fling with Brendan Finch between 2015 and 2016 on the soap, with it revealed he had a wife.

Mary was left mortified when her affair was exposed, but things soon took a devastating turn.

Despite telling her he would leave his wife for her, he soon backtracked and set Mary up, claiming she was a deranged fan.

While he left, it was revealed this week that he had sent Mary letters and even an engagement ring wanting to give things another go.

Mary hoped to reconcile with Brendan (ITV)

Years on, Mary hoped she still had a chance with the potential love of her life, texting him wanting to meet.

But Friday aired a twist as it wasn’t Brendan who met her in the pub, but it was in fact his brother, Bernard.

Mary then learned the tragic news that Brendan was dead, and had died in an accident before Mary found the letters.

Mary confronted Norris over the letters (ITV)

He said: “I didn’t want to tell you over text message. Oh dear, there’s no easy way of saying this… Brendan’s dead.”

Mary later told Rita how Brendan was UFO hunting, before tripping over his boot lace and falling off a mountain edge.

She later confronted Norris, blaming him for the death and ruining her chance at happiness.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
