Coronation Street viewers were heartbroken for Leanne Battersby on Friday evening, as the character was given hope about her young son Oliver.
The three year old will be diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, after a recent spell of seizures and ill health.
Leanne and Oliver’s father Steve McDonald were left concerned recently to learn their son could have the life limiting condition.
The hospital ran a number of medical tests on the little one, including some for genetic conditions as the consultant suggested it was likely he had a genetic illness.
More recently, Leanne and partner Nick Tilsley, as well as Oliver's father Steve, were left hopeful after a change in Oliver's behaviour.

He appeared to be more like he was before he was ill, and also had an appetite again - with him currently using a feeding tube through his nose.
In the latest episode, Leanne couldn't help but celebrate the different things that Oliver had done that week that seemed to suggest his condition was improving.
Leanne hoped it would mean there was nothing to worry about, ahead of a hospital appointment that day.

She and Nick smiled at each other and agreed it was positive, while she was worried about what the consultant would say at the hospital.
Just days earlier after a trip to a petting zoo, Oliver seemed much more alert than he had been.
He was mooing with the cows and seemed to really enjoy himself, leaving Leanne and Steve again hopeful for their son.

Viewers were moved by the scenes, knowing that the youngster was not going to be okay.
Oliver will be diagnosed with an incurable form of mitochondrial disease in upcoming scenes.
It is the appointment that Leanne was anticipating that will deliver this news, in episodes to air next week.

Seeing how happy and hopeful the family were left viewers gutted for them, ahead of the devastating news.
The family face turmoil next week when the news about his condition reaches the Street.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
