Coronation Street actor Sam Aston and wife welcome son

Coronation Street's Sam Aston, who plays Chesney on the soap, has welcomed a little baby boy.

The 27-year-old announced the birth of Sonny James Aston.

Posting a picture on Instagram, Sam and his wife Briony looked full of joy, as they showed off the newest member of the family.

In the first photograph, the star kissed his son on the forehead while his wife watched on with a loving gaze.

According to the Mirror, he wrote: "Welcome to the world little man. Our little ray of sunshine. Sonny James Aston."

Briony shared an identical photograph on her account revealing her son's name.

The yoga instructor has kept fans updated throughout her pregnancy.

She had documented her journey with many photographs on her Instagram profile.

The couple have been married for more than a year and celebrated their anniversary on May 5.

Previously, Sam admitted the lovebirds were surprised to find out they were not having a girl because there are loads of girls in their families.

He told OK! magazine: "We're having a boy!

"It was a massive surprise when we found out, as there are loads of girls in our families, so we were adamant we were having a girl."

Previously, Sam had opened up to The Mirror about how he had first struck up a relationship with Briony.

He told The Mirror: "Briony and I met when I was about 15 or 16. We talked through MSN."

Another 12 months went by before the couple met again when Briony helped out at a drama workshop Sam was running.

Sam added: "We went for a meal that night at a country pub and that was it. We’ve been together ever since."
