Cornwall construction firm buys land with plans for 17 homes - and says land market is holding up

A developer has acquired land in Cornwall with plans to build 17 new homes. St Austell-based Gilbert & Goode has bought the three-acre in the village of Threemilestone on the western edge of Truro for an undisclosed sum.

Planning consent has already been secured for a mix of open market and social housing on the previously undeveloped plot.

Craig Rowe, senior development manager at Gilbert & Goode, said: “We are delighted to have commenced 2023 with our latest land acquisition, and with the continued demand for new-build housing across the region, cannot wait to bring forward this exciting new development.”

Property consultancy Vickery Holman completed the sale. The firm’s director of agency Alan Treloar said: ‘Land with consent is in short supply so we’re interested in talking to landowners looking to sell in 2023. The market for land in Cornwall is holding up despite the headwinds so we’re optimistic for the year.

“We are getting the impression that developers are looking ahead to when the economic factors begin to return to some kind of normality and don’t want to be caught without a pipeline of product later in the year and into 2024.’

Gilbert & Goode was established in 1972 and is now one of the largest Cornish construction companies in the region. Its recent projects include 43 properties spread across two the villages of St Teath in north Cornwall and Trewoonm near St Austell.

It is part of the Ocean Housing Group of companies, which provides jobs for more than 230 people and oversees the management of more than 4,600 properties.
