Cornwall coastal path blocked by Mercedes that had nowhere to go

A car blocked off a coastal path popular with walkers when it got stuck on the the path linking two beaches. Walkers were amazed to find their route disrupted by the vehicle, which had attempted to drive along the coastal path about halfway between Plaidy and East Looe Beach in Cornwall.

Cornwall Live reports that disgruntled walkers were forced to squeeze past the Mercedes that eventually had a fence put around it. It says it is not known how long the vehicle was there for, but walkers said it was trapped in place on Saturday morning.

One walker said their route was disrupted by the vehicle on their way to Looe at 11.30am. On their way back towards Plaidy at around 12.30pm, they were forced to take an alternative route as they noticed that a temporary fence had been put in place, blocking the path.

The walker told CornwallLive: "There was a lady reporting the car to the police this morning about 11.30am. She was wondering how on Earth they were going to get it recovered.

"There was a temporary fence blocking the path when we walk back towards Plaidy about 12.30pm."

Cornwall Live said it was not known whether the car had since been removed and the coastal path reopened. However, a number of comments on its story criticised the actions of the driver, with ynot1664 snapping: "Not even Easter yet and they're at it already."

TiresomePedant said: "Oh how entertaining the drivers from up-country are: they keep us entertained ever year. No doubt slavishly following their sat-nav. I discovered recently that Google – possibly amongst others – has now started mapping off-road routes such as long-distce footpaths (or which this is part), so I expect we will see more of this sort of thing."

However Humfree12 said: "Only a very slight deviation required to rejoin coast path nothing at all for walkers to get disgruntled or upset about! Car has now been removed, walkers may be happy again especially as it is sunny and dry!"
