Cornavirus Scotland: Infection rate update amid slight rise in Ayrshire Covid patients

A further 359 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

The new number of cases included 21 in the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board region.

Of those cases, five were recorded in East Ayrshire with eight apiece in North and South Ayrshire.

There are 35 Covid patients being treated in hospital – an increase of four on the previous day – with fewer than five people battling the disease in intensive care which is the same as yesterday.

Figures announced by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland this afternoon show no new deaths have been recorded overnight.

Nationally, there are currently 353 people in hospital with 33 in ICU.

North Ayrshire currently has a seven-day case rate per 100,000 population of 100.9 which is the highest in the region.

South Ayrshire's current case rate is 84.4 per cent with East Ayrshire's faring best at 77.9.

Latest vaccination data shows 2,182,400 people have received a first dose in Scotland and 225,096 have received their second dose.
