Cormac Sharvin leading home charge after 66 has him in Irish Open contention

Cormac Sharvin will have massive galleries behind him for his final round in Lahinch tomorrow as he goes for Irish Open glory.

Ardglass pro Sharvin, 26, emulated his first round 66 this afternoon to leave himself four shots off the lead held by veteran Robert Rock on 13-under par.

He leads the Irish challenge after Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington failed to fire on the west Clare links as the tournament put up the sold out signs for the day for the first time since it was hosted in Portrush in 2012.

"The crowds were great," Sharvin said. "When you play in front of Irish crowds, the buzz is unbelievable.

"I haven’t played in front of many, but I have got my chance a few times and it is just a pleasure to play in front of them.

"The course was a little bit softer, I actually spun it off a couple of greens which was surprising but the rain softened it up and you can see from Robert Rock’s 60, which was an unbelievable score, that it is on out there.

"I have just really practised to sticking to my process and that is what I have done for three days well, and just plan to stick to my process and take one shot at a time tomorrow."

Sharvin is sharing a house this week with fellow Team Ireland invite Robin Dawson, who had earlier fired a 64 to move himself into position to launch a final round challenge.

"I actually haven’t seen him this week, he has been on opposite sides of the draw," smiled Sharvin

"I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing! But no, I have been travelling a lot with Robin this year, he's always a pleasure to travel with, he’s a bubbly character and always gives you a laugh".
