Cork woman raises fox cub and it now believes it's a dog

A Cork woman raised a fox cub after its mother sadly died and now it feeds from her hand like it believes its a dog.

Cliodhna O'Leary from Macroom began to take care of two little foxes when they were just a few weeks old after their mother passed away, CorkBeo.ie reports.

Foxy, along with her sibling, were taken into the O'Leary household and became part of the family.

Unfortunately, Foxy's sibling was hit by a car in recent months.

But ten months on, Foxy is grown and well and truly a member of the pack.

Cliodhna said: "She lives out in the wild but comes when I call her and I feed her out of my hand.

"She's always smiling.

"She loves both our dogs. She has a real soft spot for Essie...

"Essie on the other hand isn't a huge fan!"

Foxy was reared from just a few weeks old and now spends her time going for walks with Cliodhna and her dogs (Cliodhna O'Leary)

A photo of Foxy and Essie was posted on Facebook recently by Cliodhna and has picked up over 7,000 likes with hundreds of people commenting on the unique pair.

The two friends are posed alongside each other at a water trough while on a wintry walk.

It's estimated that there are around 150,000 and 200,000 foxes in Ireland and the highly adaptable species can be found in a range of habitats including urbanised areas.
