Cork win battle as game confirmed for Pairc Ui Rinn

Cork footballers were celebrating victory last night in their 'Pairc Ui Rinn or nowhere' row with Munster GAA chiefs.

The Rebel players and management refused to play their Munster semi-final encounter with Kerry anywhere other than the Cork City venue, leading to a tense standoff.

But last night Munster GAA gave Pairc Ui Rinn the green light for the May 7 tie.

Munster chiefs originally attempted to move the game to Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney, which has a capacity of over 30,000.

Pairc Ui Rinn’s capacity is likely to be just 11,000 if works are completed in time for the game.

Attempts to agree a neutral venue such as Semple Stadium came to nothing with Cork digging their heels in.

Cork were unable to host the Kerry game at Pairc Ui Chaoimh due to works required on the pitch relating to the Ed Sheeran concert at the venue.

Last week Kerry agreed to set aside the home and away arrangement with Cork involving Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Fitzgerald Stadium.
