Cork teenager sets off for 200km 'ultra-run' to raise money for Irish charity

A Cork teenager has set off on a 200km run to try and make Irish history - and raise vital support for the Irish Cancer Society in doing so.

Flobater Fares, 17, managed to top the 100km mark when he ran from Cork to Limerick last year when he was 16.

But this year, he wants to go one better.

If he completes the mammoth task, he'll become the first teenager to run 200km.

Flobater said: "Ultra Running is still very new to me as my background is in Mix Martial Arts (MMA) I am on the Irish Team & I have competed for Team Ireland @ the 2019 World Championships.

"I love creating new challenges for myself to see how much my body can push to , I will succeed in this run & complete it & hopefully help to raise awareness & support Irish Cancer Society."

Flobater says that he expects to complete this run in around 35-40 hours.

He began his route on Wednesday morning from Cork City.

From there, he is heading towards Limerick City before ploughing on into Clare.

The final leg of the journey will see him go from Clare to Galway City.

“I just decided to go for it about two weeks before I actually ran,” the North Monastery student told Cork Beo.

“This time I’m a lot more prepared and I’ve been putting in weeks and weeks of training.”

The fifth year student said that training has provided him with a great outlet from his at-home studies.

Flobater has already raised €525 at time of writing.
