Cork secondary school whose pupils visited Italy issues statement amid coronavirus fears

A Cork secondary school have issued a statement about the coronavirus to parents after students went on a school tour to Italy earlier this month.

Christ King Secondary School on the South Douglas Road posted the letter on their social media accounts signed by principal Ms Richel Long.

The statement from the all-girls school read: "Some of our students travelled to northern Italy from Wednesday 12th February to Monday 17th February on a school tour.

"There are concerned as to what consequences this may have with regard to the coronavirus COVID-19. The Principal has been in contact with the HSE and the advice to date is if your daughter is feeling unwell to contact your doctor for medical advice.

"The HSE have informed the public through their website symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear and should your daughter present with a cough, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties or a fever to please seek medical advice.

"The HSE are currently in a meeting and we are waiting for them to respond to schools nationwide who have students returning from northern Italy."

A number of schools in Waterford and schools in the North of Ireland have also had students who recently returned from Italy and have given out similar advice.
