Cork's Eoin Cadogan ‘chasing’ the buzz of another All-Ireland win to match the high of 2010

Cork star Eoin Cadogan is ‘chasing’ the buzz of another All-Ireland win to match the high of 2010.

The former dual star lined out in defence for All-Ireland football title winners Cork a decade ago though is exclusively a hurler now.

Speaking on a livestream broadcast for health and wellness website Sportsmind Ireland, Cadogan said he remains committed to chasing that dream.

“You’re always chasing it. The closest thing that would have come to it was the Munster final win in 2018, because it was my first year back hurling and it was a big risk to go back, I was 31. I got a lucky break, one of our guys unfortunately got hurt going into the Munster semi-final and I got picked and I held my place then for the rest of the year.

“To finally play in and win a Munster final was the closest thing really to matching (2010). It was in a different code obviously.”

Douglas man Cadogan, 33, revealed he’s dropped club football this year to focus on hurling solely.

He said: “This is my 19th season with Douglas at senior level. I’m actually old! It’s my first year not playing football for Douglas.”

Cadogan was a dual player with Cork when he won his All-Ireland football medal and said it’s a sad reality that balancing both codes isn’t possible anymore.

He said: “What’s going to happen is you’re going to see a lot of really talented individuals lose out on the opportunity of playing both codes. Some players probably even struggle to identify which code they’re better at.”
