Cork man Anthony O'Connor has fired his Morecambe side into the lead against Tottenham Hotspur with a cool finish from a set-piece.
The 29-year-old club captain of Morecambe led his side out at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium for a glamour FA Cup third round tie in which the home side are the hot favourites to advance.
And against a strong Spurs outfit featuring the likes of Republic of Ireland international Matt Doherty as well as Harry Winks and Dele Alli, Steve Robinson's side have forged themselves a chance of a huge result thanks to a great goal from the former Kilreen Celtic star.
Alfie McCalmont's delivery from a corner in the first half evaded all in the box except O'Connor, the centre half dodging his marker before sticking out his right foot and connecting sweetly with a low volley that directed the ball beyond Pierluigi Gollini in the Spurs goal.
O'Connor will now rally his troops with the score reading 1-1 after Harry Winks notched an equaliser for the home side.
The central defender came through the Blackburn Rovers academy before spending time at Plymouth Argyle, Burton Albion, Aberdeen and Bradford City, where he was club captain.
In June 2021, O'Connor joined Morecambe and no doubt this day will stick out as a career highlight no matter what the final score is.
Unfortunately, it was not enough as late goals from Harry Winks, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane helped Antonio Conte's side won out 3-1.
