Cork restaurant blasts 'wannabe critic' after TripAdvisor review over 'really poor' cheeseboard

A Cork restaurant hit back at a 'TripAvisor wannabe food critic' after they left a complaint about their food online.

MacCurtain St's Cask had no time for the complainer who left a negative two-star review on the popular site and called the bar's bites "really poor".

The bar responded to the person after seeing that they'd left a couple of other bad comments on other place's pages, and accused them of being a "fan of slating food in various restaurants".

The complainer, who did say that the bar was a "beautiful place" and was "worth a visit", went on to write that their food was bad before giving a backhanded compliment about a cheeseboard which was a "highlight" but "hard to get wrong".

Responding, the general manager said he had no issues with criticism but only as long as it was constructive.

He wrote: "Reading all your other reviews, you're obviously a fan off slating the food in various restaurants. I've no problem with constructive criticism.

"I don't even have a problem with guests not liking our food, taste is subjective. TripAdvisor wannabe food critics. Everyone in the industry has an issue with them."

It comes just a week after a Dublin restaurant owner hit back at a "nasty" review left about an order which had seen a Deliveroo driver hit by a car.

The Red Torch Ginger restaurant, on St Andrew Street in the city centre, was closed during the three major lockdowns, except for takeaway food.

Fans of the food rushed to support it during the tough times, but one customer was left less than impressed on a Saturday night in September.

The customer claimed their order did not have any sauce and was late in arriving - with the latter turning out to be because the delivery driver was involved in an accident.
