Cork mum whose body recovered from sea off Youghal described as 'loving friend and mother'

Friends of tragic Cork woman Sinead O'Mahony have been remembering her as a "loving friend and mother" following the news that she lost her life in the sea off Youghal on Wednesday.

The body of the 40-year-old mother of one young boy was recovered from the waters by Youghal Lighthouse at 2.40pm on Wednesday following a joint operation between the RNLI and the Coast Guard.

Sinead was from Ardcullen in Hollyhill on Cork's northside and was well known in the community as a Yoga teacher who regularly taught classes in the area, Cork Beo reports.

A rosary will be said for her at O'Connor Bros. funeral home at the North Gate Bridge this evening at 8pm, her removal will take place tomorrow at 2pm to St. Mary's on the Hill Church, Knocknaheeney and requiem Mass will be said on Monday, October 28th, at 10am.

Local community representative Mick Nugent of Sinn Fein was one of many people paying tribute to Sinead on social media this morning, saying: "Really saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Sinéad, a neighbour in Ardcullen, she was a lovely girl, doting mother, a teacher of Yoga, Tai Chi amongst other things, always looking to hold more classes in the community to pass on her skills to help people.

"Deepest sympathies to her family and friends."

Mr Nugent told Corkbeo that he was "very saddened to hear the news" of the passing of a young mother who was so well known in the community.

Another friend of Sinead's said: "Sinead thank you for being someone who I never thought could have existed, you told me keep going.

"My heart today is filled with smiles for you, I am doing this post coz I want the world to know I have Friend and her name is Sinead she is a star."
