Cork goalkeeper Mark McNulty not giving up on hopes of playing at Ibrox against Rangers despite mountain to climb

Mark McNulty once savoured the fiery Old Firm rivalry from the away end in Ibrox.

And the Cork City goalkeeper hasn’t given up hope of going one better by playing at the famous Glasgow venue this month.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers look certain to be lying in wait for the winner of tonight’s tie in Luxembourg.

But Cork City have it all to do as they trail Progres Niederkorn 2-0 after a chastening first-leg defeat at Turner’s Cross last week.

Rebels goalkeeper McNulty said: “We’d like to have come here with a different result but it is what it is.

“It’ll be a tough game. Just because it’s a team from Luxembourg, people automatically think they’re going to be poor.

“But they’re not at all. They’re technically very good but our aim is to win the game tonight to at least give ourselves a chance.”

McNulty continued: “What a game to have in the next round if we can get through to it.

“I was at Ibrox before as a Celtic fan and the atmosphere was unbelievable. What an incentive and we’ll give it as good as we’ve got.

“If we can score the first goal it's game on and we’ll see how they react to having that pressure on them.”

Rebels interim boss John Cotter said: “There’s a lot of experience in the dressing room and we’ll be looking to call on that.

“An early goal, or even the first goal, will open up the tie. We saw signs the other night where we feel we could do that.”

Shane Griffin and Kevin O’Connor are doubts while Cian Murphy and Cian Bargary are definitely out.
