Cork girl becomes viral hit with Tik Tok takedown of the British Empire

A 16-year-old Cork girl who works part-time in a Centra in West Cork has had a global hit on the popular social media platform TikTok.

Emma, with the handle  @eamonndevalera  on the short video platform TikTok, posted a video of herself in which she "jumps" between two categories - Countries That Britain Hasn't Invaded Vs Countries Britain Has Invaded.

It's backed by a song from the popular cartoon Animaniacs listing many of the countries around the world. Emma's video has proved to be a very effective graphic illustration of the history of the British Empire.

And some on social media have suggested that it should be required viewing for anybody studying British and world history.

The TikTok video is heading for over 2 million views worldwide after it was posted to twitter by London-based Irish writer Róisín Lanigan (on twitter as  @rosielanners ).

Emma has since contacted Róisín to thank her for posting the video and boosting it's reach to the point where it has been retweeted with approval by actor and movie-maker Taika Waititi - the man behind such recent hits as JoJo Rabbit and The Mandalorian.

Emma said; "Thank you for tweeting this, it really made my week. I am a 16-year-old culchie from West Cork and I made this as a complete pisstake and it now has 2 million views (as of writing this).

Emma says she is currently working the deli counter in her home-town in West Cork - her new found fame may change all of that.
