Cork GAA news: Rebels to wear one-off War of Independence commemorative jerseys

Cork's football and hurling team will take to the field in special one-off black jerseys over the next two weekends, as Cork marks the momentous events of the War of Independence.

A spokesperson for kit manufacturers O'Neills confirmed to CorkBeo that the jersey will be officially unveiled on Sunday - when the Cork hurlers take on Limerick at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

But it will not be available for sale to the public until March - and no images are being released ahead of its match debut.

Believed to be all black, the kits will be worn over the next two weekends by the Rebel hurlers and footballers in their Allianz League games.

On Sunday, the hurlers will face Limerick in a crunch league game at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

And the following weekend, the footballers will host Derry.

The one-off jerseys will also go on sale to the public in March.

In 2016, the Cork hurlers made a similar gesture when they wore a special kit, in the original county colours of saffron and blue, to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising.
