Cork GAA club suspends all activities due to potential Covid-19 contact

A Cork GAA club has temporarily paused all club activities after a number of members said they may have been in contact with someone who has since tested positive for coronavirus.

Argideen Rangers Gaa Club has suspended all group activities until Saturday as a "precautionary measure".

The West Cork club plan to give another update on Saturday after receiving more clarity and information on the issue.

They said in a statement: "Just to let our members know that as a precautionary measure we have decided to press pause on all group club activities ‪until Saturday, July 11th.‬ We will update you again on Saturday

"This is a precautionary measure, and is because a number of club members have told us that they may have been in contact with a person subsequently confirmed to have Covid-19.

"We in Argideen Rangers GAA feel it sensible and prudent to temporarily suspend both underage and adult group activities. We understand that anyone identified by Public Health authorities as a close contact will be tested for Covid-19."

Club championships are allowed to get underway from July 17, with Argideen scheduled to face Dungourney in the Cork Intermediate 'A’ Championship.

The news comes after a club hurler in Kilkenny tested positive for the virus last week.

They have since recovered and their teammates, who were identified via contact tracing, tested negative. Club activity resumed after a seven-day precautionary period.
