Cork firefighters use breathing apparatus as they battle huge car blaze

A fire crew needed to wear breathing apparatus as they battled a huge car fire in Cork city on Monday night.

The blaze occurred in the Lee Road area of Ballyvolane, with large quantities of smoke visible in the area last night.

Firefighters wore protective breathing gear to protect themselves from the amount of smoke that was caused by the blaze, Cork Beo reports.

Vehicle fires can produce tremendous heat and smoke when they occur.

Cork City Fire Brigade extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews around the city and county continue to deal with call-outs of all varieties during the lockdown, including river rescues, gorse fires and oil spills.

Council officials as well as fire brigade personnel have pleaded with landowners at this time to refrain from burning gorse to allow fire crews to deal with other emergencies effectively.
