Cork couple suffer horrific injuries in hit-and-run crash just days after losing baby boy

A careless hit-and-run motorist drove off after crashing into the car of a couple whose baby boy died days earlier.

The reckless driver is being hunted by cops after smashing into Lucasz Gladysz’s car as he drove to Cork airport last Sunday morning.

His wife and mother-in-law were badly injured following the crash outside the bus station on Parnell Place in Cork.

Lucasz’s mother-in-law broke her clavicle [collar bone] and suffered bruises and cuts to her face in the collision, while his wife broke her pelvis and suffered cuts from broken glass, Cork Beo reports.

The thug’s vehicle, which Lucasz identified as a silver Toyota RAV4 with a bull bar, sped from the scene after the crash.

He said yesterday: “It was between 7.30am and 8am on Sunday and I was heading with my wife and mother-in-law into the airport.

“We were reaching the main street, on the river side passing the small bus stop, heading straight on the green light when we were hit by the car from our side, the bridge on the other side (Parnell Place), from my left,” Lucasz explained during an interview on The 96FM Opinion Line with PJ Coogan.

“The car hit the front passenger door, the back passenger door and the back of my car as well. It just pushed my car off the road.

"The windows are gone and there is huge damage to the back door and the boot is actually cut open.”

Given how quickly the hit-and-run happened, Lucasz did not have time to take down the offending vehicle’s registration number but he has been assured by investigating Gardai that they have footage of the incident.

He added: “I cannot understand what kind of individual would drive away after hitting three people in the car and keep going without offering any help or waiting for the ambulance at the very least to make sure we survived.

“I’m just so happy to be alive. It was the first accident that I’ve ever had.

“It was a main road so I’ve been assured by the Gardai that they’re going to find him.

"I believe it’s just a matter of time, hopefully.

“Plus there were about 10 or 15 people at the bus stop who ran across to help, which I’m really grateful for.”

Lucasz’s mother-in-law was in Cork to support the couple after the sad loss of their baby son four days earlier.
