Cork community plan celebration for return of 85-year-old man struck down by Covid-19

Locals in Co Cork are planning a celebration for a hardy pensioner who is currently recovering from Covid-19 in hospital.

Paddy O'Sullivan, 85, was in intensive care but is now getting better "against the odds".

Local Ava Kelleher told CorkBeo that 85-year-old Paddy from Rusheen, Macroom, is "a huge part of the community" and that his progress has given everyone a boost.

"We are a small community but we are very tight-knit, and we are just delighted to have some good news at the moment," Ava said.

The Kelleher family have made signs to lift Paddy's spirits in hospital, which they have sent on for him to see, and Ava said he is "delighted to see them".

Healthcare staff are very happy with Paddy's recovery so far after spending the last two weeks in hospital, and Ava and others in the community are hoping he will be returning back to Care Choice Macroom soon.

"He is 85 years old so he will be in hospital a bit longer than other people, but all the staff are very happy with his recovery so far," Ava told CorkBeo.

Paddy is now out of intensive care after recovering "against the odds," with the support and best wishes of the Rusheen community cheering him on every step of the way.
