Cork City sign former North Macedonia youth international

Cork City have signed a third Swedish player ahead of the new season.

Winger Daniel Krezic has arrived at Turner’s Cross following spells in Sweden’s top flight with Degerfors and Varberg.

Born in Gothenburg, he represented North Macedonia at underage levels between 2014 and 2017.

He made one appearance in an Under-21 Euro qualifier against Gibraltar and was on the bench for two more games at that level.

Krezic, 26, said: “I’m really excited to be at Cork City. It’s a new adventure for me and I'm really looking forward to helping the team in the season ahead.

“I’m a fast winger and I like to attack and take defenders on one-on-one and I hope I can add some goals and assists to the team.”

Krezic played with recent Rebels recruit Albin Winbo at Varberg for a year.

Cork City boss Colin Healy said: “Daniel is a good player and he will add to our attacking options.

“He’s played for the last few years in the top division in Sweden, so he has played at a good level and he has good experience.

“We’re very pleased to have him at the club and we’re looking forward to seeing him in action soon.”

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town have signed Cork City youngster Leon Ayinde for an undisclosed fee.

The forward is one of three Irish prospects to have joined the Tractor Boys’ youth set-up from the League of Ireland.

Daniel O’Connor of Galway United and Sligo Rovers’ Michael Lavin - also midfielders - also made the switch in the January window.

Leon Ayinde has joined Ipswich Town from Cork City (Cork City FC)

But of Ayinde’s departure, Cork City’s head of academy, Liam Kearney, said: “I’m delighted for Leon.

“It has been a pleasure to watch him develop his game over the last couple of years within our academy.

“He has exemplified what hard work and dedication can do for you. Leon has all the characteristics and traits to step up to the next level.

“We as an academy are very proud of our role in aiding his development as a person as well as a player and we wish him every success in the future.”

Ayinde played for the Rebels Under-19s last season having progressed through the ranks since joining from St Mary’s in 2019.
